Our Verdict
HP 4178 ink efficient printer is excellent for home, student, and small office there is absolutely no doubt. The printer provides outstanding color accuracy and photo printing quality. But for black and white photo printing, it is okay, whereas black and white document printing is crisp and clear.
The scanning feature is excellent, and it is good news for students and small offices because they will be required to use it most. If you are required to print high-volume documents, it is definitely not a great choice because of the high printing cost. For high volume, we suggest you go for Ink Tank Printers. Printer Build Quality

- Height: 40.5 cm
- Width: 24.2 cm
- Length: 47.5 cm
- Weight: 4.8 kg
HP 4178 ink efficient printer has a decent build quality. The printer is made up of solid plastic, and its compact design doesn’t hold much space.
The printer comes with both trays input and output trays. Input trays hold 60 pages, and output trays hold 25 pages. But be sure to pull out the output tray before printing; otherwise, the paper may get crumbled. You can remove the cable in case you need to replace it.

Display Screen

- Display Screen Size: 3.6 cm
- Touch Display: No
The printer display is okay, not much glossy and colorful but enough for efficient use. It is an LCD display with some icons and symbols on it but easy to use no matter if you are standing or sitting. You will get many physical buttons on the printer to access different functions.
Cartridge
- Color Cartridge number: 1
- Color Cartridge Model: HP 682 Tri-colour Original Ink Cartridge

The printer cartridge system is good. One tri-color and one black cartridge are provided. This printer cartridge is similar to other HP Deskjet printers. The cartridge yields are not so high, no matter if you print black and white or color.
There is a solution that has high volume printing requirements: you can use third-party cartridges. Third-party cartridges mean other brands or local brand cartridges that are compatible with the printer. You will get nearly similar printing quality but at a lower price.
