Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz
We’ve collected everything there is to know about the Black Widow movie and structured it below for your ease. From the release date to the timeline, here’s everything we know so far about Black Widow’s solo debut.
Scarlett Johansson is back as the ass-kicking Avenger, having previously appeared as the character in multiple other MCU movies. In fact, the Black Widow movie has been announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. the movie has been shooting in the UK for some time and it is the first solo movie of Black Widow to arrive as part of Marvel Phase 4. The Black Widow movie will be directed by Cate Shortland and will debut in cinemas on May 1, 2020, the first of the Phase 4 movies.
Super Villian against Black Widow-TASKMASTER
Taskmaster is a mysterious figure believed to have been born in Brooklyn, New York City. The man who would become the Taskmaster was born a prodigious savant of mnemonic talents a psychiatrist who studied his ability, terming it “photographic reflexes.” Taskmaster has used his talent to become the Marvel Universe’s premier trainer for the criminal world and government.
ABILITY: He has the ability to copy the physical movements of anyone he witnesses.
We know that the character will be the film’s main villain and that the suit will be incredibly comic book accurate, but not who is under the costume. Footage shown exclusively at SDCC revealed that the MCU’s Taskmaster would also keep the same comic skillset. To know more click here.
The Black Widow footage shows Taskmaster and Natasha fighting, with the villain using the same moves Black Widow is doing to fight back.
There are few possible explanations for Taskmaster and Black Widow using the same fighting style:
Black Widow and Taskmaster could have fought before
Taskmaster may have fought other Red Room trainees in the past and learned these moves through that experience.
But, there’s also a third option that would put a completely different twist on Taskmaster: the person below the suit was also from the Red Room. If that’s the case, Weisz’s Melina is the best contender.
Storyline and Timeline of Black Widow film
Specifically, the story remains as an unknown mystical Black Widow’s backstory. However, Johansson said at Marvel’s SDCC 2019 Phase 4 event that “I think you’ll learn about what Natasha is afraid of, and I think you’ll learn about what parts of herself she’s afraid of”. Following the Comic-Con announcement, Johansson also teased that the movie will see Natasha in a “dark place where she’s got no one to call and nowhere to go”.
We know the film will be a prequel. Sadly, Black Widow sacrificed herself to save Hawkeye and get the Soul Stone from Vormir during the “time heist”. So that surely means that the only route to go for her solo movie is a prequel. President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige confirmed the movie is set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. It might explore the time when she was on the run following the Sokovia Accords. The Black Widow movie also may shed some light on Natasha’s life before she joined as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
Main Cast of Black Widow
Obviously, Scarlett Johansson will be in it as Black Widow and the official announcement of the movie didn’t hold any surprises. As well as David Harbour joins her, playing Alexei Shoskatov, a.k.a. the Red Guardian. The Red Guardian is the communist response to Captain America.
Florence Pugh is playing Yelena Belova. But Black Widow is seen fighting with her, then drinking within the Comic-Con teaser. She’s described as a sister figure to Natasha. while Fagbenle will be Mason and Weisz will star as Melina.
