Avatar 2: Hitting Finally After Twelve Years
Avatar 2 is going to be visually breathtaking and fans are going to be speechless with there mouth wide open – Says James Cameron
Most awaited and long-promised sequel of James Cameron’s highest-grossing blockbuster movie Avatar is finally settled into the track. Back in 2006 before the release of the first movie of the franchise Avatar, James Cameron said that if Avatar goes good then he definitely going to make its sequel and as expected the movie hit the global box office hard and it became the highest-grossing movie nearly pulled $2.782 billion worldwide. After the massive success of Avatar in 2009, James Cameron in 2010 promised that the sequel of Avatar is going to be scheduled around 2014 but for some reason, the date continues to bounce. Over the last 12 years, we’ve seen countless major movie franchises come and go, but few have had the global appeal of James Cameron’s Avatar.
There are some glowing expectations of the fans with the film Avatar 2, fans patiently waiting for sequels to arrive ever since, and while the filmmaking team behind the franchise has been taking its time, they have some absolutely gigantic plans for the future. Whereas James Cameron has already said that we’re going to be getting not one, not two, but four sequels of Avtar franchise, with the series set to run until 2027. Avatar 2 and its several other sequels have been in development for years the second and third Avatar sequels are actually in production now, so baring massive disaster, they at least will happen.
For now, we will only focus on the upcoming sequel Avatar 2 in this article, and we should get updated before returning to our alien planet Pandora. Because it is been a decade that we have left it behind.
Avatar 2 release date: Finally Scheduled to Hit after 12 years
Never mind Avatar 2 has been bounced through many scheduled dates till now but it has finally scheduled to hit the cinemas on December 17, 2021. Though it is first set up to release in December 2014 and Avatar 2 next sequel Avatar 3 is organized to liberate in 2015. But when January 2015 rolled around with no Avatar 2, James Cameron confirmed that the sequels had been pushed to some time around 2016 — including the newly announced fourth sequel. And consecutive sequels are scheduled to release in 2017 and 2018 but after Disney bought Avatar owners fox at that point it is expected there may be another drift in release dates. Since Disney also owns Star Wars, they’ll be trying to balance out that franchise’s fervently followed films with the Avatar sequels every Christmas.
But luckily, the Disney-Fox takeover hasn’t hit the Avatar sequel the way it has hit other movies. Instead of that, the production on Avatar 2 will continue as planned.
Then, in January 2015, it was announced that Avatar 2 would now be freed in December 2017, while James Cameron says the “very involved” writing process was accountable for the delay. That means all sequels of the franchise shifted one year more.
Cameras were expected to finally roll in April of 2016 but that just didn’t happen. Then it was announced in January 2017 that work on the motion capture would be starting in August 2017, and eventually began in September.
On the subject of delays, Cameron Says to CNN. “It was a seven-year gap between The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the seven-year gap between Alien and Aliens,”
As of now, we’re getting Avatar 2 on December 17, 2021, Avatar 3 on December 22, 2023, Avatar 4 on December 19, 2025, and Avatar 5 on December 17, 2027. At least, that’s the theory. Avatar 2 will arrive in cinemas a full 12 years after the original, so Cameron better hopes it’s worth the wait.
Avatar 2 Budding Titles
Since we have had at least two more sequels Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 by now according to Cameron’s original timeline, we don’t even know for sure what the official title of Avatar 2 will be. Officially, Avatar 2 has no title beyond simply that, Avatar 2.
Whereas Cameron pointed out there will be no word “Avatar” in Avatar sequels because in the movie Avatar at the end Jake Sully after the battle with humans, left his avatar to become a real Na’ vi, so the term technically no longer applies. However, that’s only a rumored. Unsurprisingly, it seems that 20th Century Fox or Disney were not on board with this change thought. However, in 2018 the BBC wrote that the films could be called Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa – which Cameron later confirmed are potential titles, but could be subject to change. And maybe upcoming posters and trailers come up with totally different titles.
Avatar 2 Cast: What’s New
The core cast of the original Avatar film is all on contract, so old stars will be back in blue for the sequel when it finally hits. Even the stars who were dead in 2009 Avatar will also make a comeback and some maybe with a different role.
Sam Worthington will return as the human-turned-Na’ vi, Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana, who will reprise the role of the Na’vi princesses Neytiri. For Worthington and Saldana, the years between Avatar and its sequels have led to two very different careers. While Saldana moved to the MCU — Guardians of the Galaxy and Worthington played side roles after performing in the much-abused Clash of the Titans and its sequel.
Similarly, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang are both backs for all four sequels. Weaver’s Dr. Grace Augustine was killed by bullets in Avatar, whereas Weaver says that she will be a wholly new character, she’s been learning to free dive in preparation for the movie.
On the other hand, even after being killed by two arrows in Avatar James Cameron confirmed that Stephen Lang will be back as a master villain Colonel Miles Quaritch and as the main villain in all future sequels.
James Cameron is bringing back one of Avatar’s key Na’vi tribe members for the sequel. C. C. H. Pounder has signed on to reprise her role as Mo’at (Neytiri’s mum) in all four of the filmmaker’s ambitious Avatar sequels. And Matt Gerald is back as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet.
Accordingly, Oona Chaplin and Cliff Curtis also joining the sequel. Edie Falco is playing the new character General Ardmore.
And here is the biggest news that was announced in October 2017 that KATE WINSLET is going to assemble in Avatar world with James Cameron long after the blockbuster Titanic playing the role of Ronal, Cameron described as “part of the Sea People, the reef people.” He also said that Winslet was “very excited” to see the world they had created and that she demanded that she be allowed to do all her own water work.
Michelle Yeoh has also joined the cast as scientist Dr. Karina Mogue as well as another biggest star of Hollywood expected to join soon in any of the sequels of the franchise non-other than Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel.
As confirmed by James Cameron more two new male characters are also joining the Avatar Universe Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, the leader of the Metkayina and the chief of the reef people. Another star accompanying him to Pandora is Jemaine Clement as a marine biologist named Dr. Garvin — first name Ian, according to his IMDb page.
Avatar 2: A Standalone Movie
Actually, you can say that Avatar 2 is a sequel of Avatar whereas everything is carried from the first to the second but except the storyline. In each sequel of this franchise, you will see a different story that is not linked with any other sequel. Each movie has its own beginning and the conclusion. According to Landau, having the world of Pandora to play with means each movie has enough substance to follow its own storyline without needing to rely on the others. Producer Jon Landau says “Each movie is a standalone movie that we would wanna go see, You don’t need to have seen the first Avatar to see Avatar 2.”
Face Of The Camera
As on update from Jon Landau the Avatar team had covered the motion-capture section and would be starting on the live-action scenes in the spring. Cameron has pointed out that most of what we’ll see onscreen in the four sequels of the franchise will be motion-capture footage.
Vertical mountains of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China has inspired the creator to design Pandora. Whereas actual shooting will be shooted in New Zealand.
The Director: Incredible Visual
Director James Cameron strongly expressed that the long-awaited movie surely going to deliver his fans and haters with a breathtaking visual and impressive story. The first Avatar was truly a passion project for James Cameron, as the filmmaker spent years and years developing both the script and the technological advancements that needed to be made. The director is certainly not expecting success to come automatically to the Avatar sequels simply because the first one did well.
James Cameron is known for his technological advancement, back in 2014 Cameron planned to use 4K Resolution not only that has talked about both filming at higher frame rates using performance capture underwater. With the Director Avatar 2 is surely going to break the limitation that can be achieved in modern film making.
In the 2017 interview Cameron didn’t make much clearance, he only says “people just won’t be able to imagine it in advance.”
More Female Characters in Pandora
Not only Weaver, Saldana, and Winslet are in the upcoming Avatar sequel but there are more female stars cast for strong characters. The official Avatar account tweeted on February 6, 2019, Sopranos and Nurse Jackie cast as the leader of the RDA forces. After two months it came to light that Michelle Yeoh will play as a scientist named Dr. Karina Mogue. Not only that it was announced that Game of Thrones actress Oona Chaplin would be playing a character named Varang ( a strong and dynamic character that will be in the entire saga).
There is no doubt that these female characters are efficiently talented but how exactly they are going to be fitted in there a role that depends entirely on the director James Cameron, but it’s promising to see so many talented women coming together in a big-budget blockbuster.
Young Characters in Avatar 2
We already know that the story is revolving around Jake Sully and Neytiri. As the time gap between the two movies is 12 years so the movie will primarily be focused on their children. Jamie Flatters will play the oldest child, Britain Dalton will play middle child Lo’ak. And only the youngest girl child is played by Trinity Bliss named as Tuktirey.
Moreover, there is also a child actor Jack Champion who plays a single human character Javier ‘Spider’ Socorro. He likes to explore and wander around Pandora instead of being born in the former human colony Hell’s Gate.
Avatar 2 Plot Centred on Jake and Neytiri's daughter
All four movies are going to play in the oasis of Pandora. Everyone who enjoyed the intensely colorful visuals of Pandora will again get the chance of a glimpse of Pandora but according to James Cameron, we will not get the same visual instead of something much more than that which we cannot even imagine.
Landau said that maximum science fiction movies on the way of there sequel with the same character tend to settle there a plot to different planets or different locations but Avatar all four sequels will be in the same plot of Pandora. In this way, not only will we get to see different types of environments, but we’ll also meet clans whose natural environments have shaped their perspectives on the world.
In this second sequel of Avatar franchise, one of the main factor involved is Pandoras life in the underwater so most of the motion capture is underwater. Which is more difficult for filming says, James Cameron.
But the plot mainly focused on Jake and Neytiri’s family. Since there is a large gap between the two movies so the beginning of the movie shows jake and Neytiri with grown-up children two boys and a girl. Speaking to the Empire Podcast, Cameron revealed that the first sequel will start out by focusing on Jake and Neytiri’s eight-year-old daughter. He also said that although Jake and Neytiri being together as a couple, a big disagreement develops between the pair, which the audience will see from the point of view of their child.
Cameron explained that Avatar is now a family saga with powerfull villains who again invade their land and want to perish them. Whereas Jake sully is not an Avatar anymore he is a Na’vi with family so there may be some drift in the behavior as their action can affect their families. Overall Cameron is in full force to give the audience much more new on the same plot.
Avatar 2: Trailer
Surely it is foolish to think that there is any official or unofficial trailers of Avatar 2 on an all you will get fan-made trailers which are totally useless because there is nothing new to show you anything. Nearly two years or some less to get Avatar 2 on cinemas, maybe by the mid-year of 2020 there some official trailer announcements.
Avatar 2: Rating
The original Avatar movie received PG-13 ratings and upcoming movies are the sequels of the first so it is a good chance to stick with the same ratings. But the actual story is not revealed yet, it has the chances to make the shift to R rated zone. While as the movie has a huge amount of investment more than the first one director will try to grab as many seats as possible in theaters.
There is enough time to wait and think before the movie hits the theatre as how will Pandora looks like when it comes back to life again. What may happen in these so many years? Let’s see is it worth to wait for 12 long years. Whatever but PANDORA is definitely going to make a spectacular come back.
