Design and Build Quality

This Acer Nitro 5 is made up of heavy and durable plastic, which is made up of premium quality. This laptop has thick bezels and the company tried to distract its user by providing bevel-edge corners.

But I didn’t find any problem with the thick bezels of the Acer laptop it didn’t distract or irritate me when I used it.

The Acer Nitro 5 laptop looks very attractive in a black and red combination. There is an Acer logo but not silver it is black and glossy at the center of the lid which is onyx-coated.

A red hinge with the word “Nitro” connects the screen and the deck which is really awesome. The laptop’s chassis is also made up of solid plastic.

When you press the lid you may notice some flex but the palm rest is more solid than it. Whereas you may get the feeling of less sturdiness and cheap quality but I didn’t find it a major issue it works totally fine for me.

Acer comes with the same keyboard design having red straps, which was also available in their previous Nitro version. The Nitro word is popular because of its red straps.

The design is a bit change in which there is no textured design at the backside of the laptop, the plastic material is very heavy, so users don’t have to compromise with the quality overall.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515 Ports

If I talk about the ports, I am slightly dissatisfied with the new changes because they could be better than now.

The company had changed the two USB 2.0 ports to one and had replaced it with USB 3.0, so it will be inconvenient.

They have removed the option of the card reader, which is a big disadvantage for the users. They come with only 1 HDMI 2.0 image output and there is no place for USB 3.1

In this new design, the ventilation grills are placed to the right side and the headphone jack comes to the front side of the laptop.

So there are chances of getting warm air when we use an external mouse, but here we welcome the RJ45 port. Overall, we are a bit dissatisfied with these changes because these design decisions reduce the functionality of Nitro 5.

Acer Nitro Display

This laptop has a 15.6-inch wide HD display so that users can experience better gaming. The display quality is very good the picture that comes out is crisp and clear.

When I saw a Youtube video at the highest resolution the picture was so clear that I can see any spots or wrinkles of the character.

The Acer laptop 5 display has 245 nits of brightness which is low compared to other budget laptops so it is good not to use the laptop near bright light or windows.

It has the brightest bezels, which will provide sharp images and the best video gaming experience. Overall we can say that this laptop has a good display as per its price. So it will be a good choice for gamers having a low budget.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515 Keyboard and Touchpad

keypad

The keyboard is comfortable to use but we have not seen many changes in this new keyboard, things are the same. It comes with red-backlit keys for a better gaming experience.

The lights make it more comfortable to use but if there is no light then it will be a bit tough to use the keyboard.

Keeping the gaming in mind Acer has put a thick red line strip around the most used keys like arrow keys and W, A, S, D.

It has also provided a thick red line to the extra “N” key which is located at the top left corner of the Num pad to launch Nitro Sense app quickly which controls the fan speed.

Whereas if you don’t like the red color then it is bad news for you as Acer laptop 5 doesn’t have customizable RGB-key lighting. It only comes with red-backlit with 4 levels of brightness.

The only demerit is that some keys are very close to others. Like the right arrow key is very close to 0, sometimes there will be an accidental press of the ley.

I like the Acer touchpad it has a decent clicking experience. The trackpad is very smooth to use, even you use two fingers to scroll and do other things. We don’t have any issue with the trackpad, as it is more convenient than a mouse.

Acer Nitro Processor

This is a 9th Generation Intel Code i5-9300H processor, which comes with some amazing and powerful features.

All the middle range laptops are coming with an i5 processor and this will be a good choice to have an i5 processor at a very affordable price.

It comes with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics, which will provide the best and amazing visual experience.

The twin fan will also help to keep the laptop cool, so now you don’t need to worry if you are playing games for longer hours.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515 Performance and Storage

If we talk about the performance then this laptop is better than its previous versions. It comes with 8 GB DDR4 RAM and 256 GB SSD storage, so it is providing higher performance than GTX 1050.

In this budget, it will be a good choice, as the company has also improved the performance of the laptop.

The laptop is providing an average of 44 frames per second, which is an ideal option but if you want something killer then it is not a good choice for you.

You need to go with 63 frames per second laptop for the killer experience. But still, 44 fps is a good choice at this budget.

Below I have provided a few popular games data and comparison images by which you can see that Acer Nitro 5 is capable enough to play nearly all popular games.

Overwatch, Fortnite, PUBG, Rainbow Six Seige

Battlefield V, Tomb Raider, Far Cry, Apex Legends

Speakers

This Laptop has simple speakers, which are common like other laptops. It provides high-pitched tones for a better gaming experience.

It has average speakers, which are not so good, and not so bad. It is good for listening to normal music or playing some videos.

But if you want some killer music then you need to attach external speakers or headphones so that you can enjoy loud and crystal-free music.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515 Fan Noise

As we have said that there are two fans inside this laptop and both are ideal when you use the laptop normally.

You may listen to some noise when they run idle. But when you use the machine on intensive tasks like playing heavy games then you can hear more noise from these fans.

The voice is not annoying at all, it can be easily handled. But still, if you are playing high intensive games then we will recommend going with headphones because these fans can drown out your speakers, so always keep this thing in your mind.

Camera

Acer Nitro 5 AN515 has a 1280 x 720-pixel camera situated at the top of the bezel. You can say the picture quality is okay and a little bit grainy.

The output quality the not very clear and crisp so we recommend using separate webcams if you need good quality.

Acer Nitro 5 AN515 Tempreture

When I played gaming for half an hour the high temperature that I found is the backside near the vents that touched 119 degrees. The center of the keypad touched 107 and the touchpad clicks 77 degrees.

And after viewing videos online for about an hour the temperature was in the control center 88, touchpad 76, backside 87 degrees.

And the hottest area is again backside near the vents that is 91 degrees. So the situation is under the 95-degree comfort threshold.

Below I have provided the data of temperature, Clock speed, and TDP.

Battery Life

Acer comes with a 57 Watt powerful battery for the users to use a laptop for long hours on a single charge.

The company claims that it will run for 8 hours on a single charge but as per my experience, it runs almost 5 hours on a single charge, which is good if we compare it with other mid-range laptops.

If you want to use it for more than 5 hours on a single charge then you need to reduce the brightness and toggle on all the power-saving features.

Pros & Cons

Good

  • It has a wider display with attractive look.
  • The keyboard backlit improves the gaming experience.
  • Fan cool feature will help to keep the laptop cool all the time.
  • It comes with good storage at a very affordable price.

Bad

  • The speaker quality is not so good and the sound is Ok.

What I Think About Acer Nitro 5

According to my Acer Nitro 5 is an excellent laptop to start your gaming passion. If you want to play all high-end popular games on a tight budget then you will not get any better option.

But yes I think Acer could have improved the build quality but the current build quality didn’t bother either.

In Acer Nitro 5 AN515 i5-9300H GTX 1650 Gaming Laptop Review I provided you all the screenshots that I have played in and you can see Acer has performed decently even in some parameters Acer Nitro is better than others.

But if you wish to play games with full power and maximum graphics you can check Acer Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop but it will cost you above 1000 bucks.
